Wider opening to pupils from June 8th

27 May 2020 (by admin)

Mr Hayles has written to all parents ahead of reopening our school on June 8th.

Dear Parents
Following discussion with the other schools within Oak Trust, the Trustees and the Trust CEO, we have decided that we will open more widely on June 8 NOT June 1, 2020.  The Government have already, clearly, signaled their intention for schools to open and have left it in the hands of Local Authorities, Academy Trusts and individual schools to decide exactly when and on what basis.
To reiterate, school will only be open to the children of key workers next week and NOT more widely to children in pre-school, the foundation stage, year 1 and year 6.  We expect school to be re-open to these year groups from Monday 8th of June.

It strikes us that the Government advice on the issue has not been as clear, or as consistent, as it could have been, and that increasingly the debate has morphed around the issue of personalities in government and perceived risk, rather than the measures we have in place.   Placing politics to one side, this decision to open has been based solely on the following:

  • Safety is our number 1 consideration
  • Transparency in our planning and decisions
  • Doing what’s right for our communities
This has not been an easy decision to make and I know everyone has a different view as to what is the right or best thing to do but the extra week gives us further time to: consider our risk assessments; work to further mitigate the identified risks; prepare staff for the new ways in which we will be working and; hopefully see a further decline in the death rate and the introduction of the Governments 'Test, Track and Trace' programme.
We will continue to be open to the children of key workers but I still urge you to care for your children at home, if at all possible, at this time.
I will write to you again should there be any changes to this plan.
Kind regards and keep safe
Mr Hayles
