Year 5
Welcome to our Year 5 page.
PE: Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember to have your kit at school on these days (including suitable outdoor sports shoes). As we have gymnastics this half-term, clothing must be close-fitting (both arms and legs to have elastic cuffs) to ensure safety on apparatus.
Spelling: test and a new rule are introduced on Thursday.
Homework: is set on a Friday and due-in the following Friday, allowing a week for children to complete it. Homework will allow children to further practice and consolidate skills covered in class (they can demonstrate their understanding by showing you how to do it). Encourage your child to start their homework on the weekend, so if any questions arise, these can be asked during the week. There is also an opportunity to attend homework club on a Wednesday break-time.
Spellings
The spelling overview for the next 6 weeks can be found below.
This term, we would like the children to write a definition for each word before using them appropriately in a sentence. Do take time to daily practice spellings and using these words in conversation to help embed this vocabulary.
Please make sure that your child has neatly joined letters and only takes ONE page per weekly rule. This will allow them to keep all of their spellings in one book which they can refer back to and make useful for themselves.

Reading
Reading is the cornerstone of all learning. We encourage the children to read regularly in class: independently, aloud with their peers, chorally and with adults. Continuing to support their reading at home by: enabling them to have access to texts; time and space to read regularly; as well as sharing reading together, will help to develop a reading habit which will support their curiosity and thirst for learning.
